ISG is an insurance audit company that works on behalf of carriers. We conduct premium audits for insurance carriers across the United States and run each one to your specifications, with the care of an in-house audit department. Our auditors average 15 years of experience, with backgrounds on carrier audit staffs and at audit vendors, and ISG has completed more than 400,000 audits.

How an ISG Audit Reaches Your Desk
Chasing records is where audits stall. So on every non-physical audit, a dedicated ISG contact team handles the notification, the follow-up, and the material gathering before the file is assigned. The auditor starts with a complete package and spends their time on the audit itself.
Every file gets auditor review, and a dedicated QA review follows before the report reaches you. Audits are built around your requirements, including your documentation standards and reporting format, and you hear from us at every stage rather than only when something needs attention. The process is the same whether you send us a handful of audits or a program of thousands.
Five Audit Types, Matched to the Risk
ISG performs all five audit types. Premium tells you how much is at stake, not how likely the estimate is to be wrong, so the right audit type depends on the exposure as much as the policy size.
Voluntary Audits
The policyholder self-reports exposures and operations, with no backup documentation required. Files are processed automatically unless a red flag appears, such as an exposure variance or an out-of-balance report, and a flagged file goes to an auditor for review.
Mail Audits
The policyholder self-reports and attaches backup documentation. An auditor reviews the submission and finalizes the report, contacting the insured only if questions come up.
Phone Audits
Records are provided as with a mail audit, and the auditor contacts the insured on every file to verify operations, job duties, and anything that needs clarifying.
Virtual Audits
A full audit without the site visit. The auditor completes a full records review, documents operations and job duties in detail, and conducts a live audit interview with the insured.
Physical Audits
A full audit at the insured's place of business, with records reviewed on site. When operations extend to third-party locations, the auditor contacts those parties by phone or email before the audit is completed. Physical audits are available for insureds in the Southeast, and we welcome inquiries about larger physical audit programs outside the region.
Large Risks and High-Volume Validations
High-exposure accounts go to senior auditors. That includes large commercial risks, professional employer organizations, staffing and temporary employment agencies, and Fortune 500 operations, where complex ownership structures and multi-state exposures draw closer scrutiny.
At the other end of the premium scale, ISG runs dedicated validation work for Business Owner's Policies, verifying gross sales, payroll, units, and other exposure bases before, during, or at renewal. We also validate Employer Non-Owned Liability exposures, confirming the number of drivers, driver payroll, and cost of hire that drive ENOL rating.
Policy Lines and Industries
We audit workers' compensation, general liability, commercial auto, construction liability, professional liability, products liability, business owner's policies, employer non-owned liability, umbrella and excess, and inland marine.
Our auditors work across construction, manufacturing, technology, PEOs, staffing, healthcare, real estate, retail and distribution, and transportation.
Additional Audit Services
Beyond the audit itself, ISG reviews completed audits for accuracy and compliance, supports dispute resolution on contested findings, performs classification inspections to check class codes against actual operations, and conducts special investigations on complex or high-exposure cases. We also provide expert witness testimony in audit-related legal proceedings and consult on audit program design and process improvement.
Policyholder Data, Protected
A premium audit means handling payroll records, tax documents, subcontractor agreements, and financial statements. ISG's security program is built on the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0. Multi-factor authentication is required on every system, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and auditors work in locked-down, monitored cloud environments instead of downloading files to their own devices. Audit files are open only to the team members assigned to them. Read more about security at ISG.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does ISG conduct audits?
ISG serves carriers across the United States. Voluntary, mail, phone, and virtual audits can be completed for policyholders anywhere in the country. Physical audits, with an on-site visit, are conducted in the Southeast. For larger programs, we welcome inquiries about physical audits outside the region.
How do you decide which audit type a policy gets?
Your specifications come first. When you want our recommendation, we look past premium size to what makes an estimate likely to move: the classifications involved, subcontracted work, and how the insured's operations have changed since the policy was written.
Can ISG take on seasonal or overflow volume?
Yes. Carriers bring ISG in for renewal-season peaks and backlogs, as well as for fully outsourced programs. See how carriers use ISG as an audit vendor, or read about how outsourced premium audits reduce risk and overhead.
How do we get started?
Call 888.292.3852 or send us a note. We start with your audit specifications, documentation standards, and reporting requirements, and build the program around them before the first file is assigned.
